Nowadays we are more used to digitization. With increasing use of different web media there is a huge in data that is going online. If you see the use of social media in recent few years has grown than what it used to be few years back. People post lots of information online. So did you ever think about how is this data been managed and who manages this???? There are database constructed by this web companies which helps the company to store data and manage them efficiently. So what is this database and how will it be useful to build a career???? Before going to database we need to first understand what data is or what should be called a data. A simple line that defines data is “Data is the facts that can be recorded”. Meaning everything that you are able to record becomes your data. Say for example data can be name, contact number, date of birth, address this can be related to an individual or group of people, going one step higher an audio clip, video, images and many more media files. This are the things that can recorded and can be stored. Recording this fact is simple but how to store this data and in what format so that it is easily available to us becomes a question mark. For this database is the solution which helps you to store and manage the data that is been recorded. Data is been placed in tabular format in the database meaning database consist of various tables in which data is been stored according to its category. In simple words the data that was randomly collected is stored according to its category in database and this categorized data is known as “Information”. Though with different new technologies coming in market, database is not given that importance or to put in other words database has not got limelight as the other technologies like cloud computing, virtualization and so on. But no matter what technology you use every technology requires database to handle the data coming in. And the system handling and managing this data is known as “Database Management Systems(DBMS)”. There are various platforms in Database Management Systems such Oracle, MySQL, DB2, SQL Server and so on which are been used to handle data. When it comes to field of Information Technology individuals are only focused on either being a developer or tester but for people who find programming difficult can get their command on database as you will only have to have the basic knowledge of programming and Structured query language(SQL) and definitely basic knowledge of database queries which is already a part of almost all Information Technology syllabus. There various different career options that are available if you want to develop your career in database:
  1. Database Administrator (DBA): This individual is said to be the sole of DBMS, he/she is involved into the process right from the installation of DBMS, its configuration and management of data. There are various platforms in database from which DBA works on one of the platforms.
  2. Database Developer: These individual develop different applications with use of different kind of APIs which can be generic or proprietary to connect to database.
  3. Database Designer: Also known as Database Architect. This individual is responsible to gather information from the user according to their requirements and construct designs of database and applications to meet these requirements.
  4. Data Scientist: Also known as Data Analyst. This person is responsible to analyze data from different sources and determine the meaning out of it. They also make recommendations based on previous data for a business.
  5. Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist: These people are specialized and responsible analyzing and reporting important data streams like money transactions and its history, customer information and many more.
  6. Data Warehousing Specialist: These individuals are responsible for analyzing data from different operational systems to analyze data history, recent rends and generate reports of the history and also predict the forecast.
These are different kind of post that an individual can try for if he/she wants to build a career in database. There are also various certification courses that are available which one can per sue to have specialization is database. But this are not legit courses meaning they are not valid worldwide.
