Windows Operating System, developed by Microsoft Corporation, is a popular graphical operating system. The latest version of Microsoft Operating System which is being widely used across the world is Windows 10.
Windows OS offers a user-friendly interface, broad application compatibility, regular updates and support, extensive hardware support, and integration with the Microsoft ecosystem, making it a popular choice for personal computers and other devices.
Architecture: The Windows OS architecture can be summarized as follows:
Kernel: At the core of the Windows OS architecture is the kernel, which is responsible for managing system resources, providing essential services, and facilitating communication between hardware and software components.
Executive Services: The executive services layer includes components like the memory manager, process manager, and I/O manager. These services handle memory allocation, process management, and input/output operations, respectively.
Device Drivers: Windows OS supports a wide range of hardware devices through device drivers. These drivers act as intermediaries between the operating system and hardware devices, allowing the OS to communicate with and control various peripherals and components.
User Mode: The user mode consists of higher-level components that interact with users and run applications. This includes the Windows API (Application Programming Interface) that provides a set of functions and services for application development, as well as the graphical subsystem for managing the display and user interface.
File System: Windows OS supports various file systems, such as NTFS (New Technology File System) and FAT (File Allocation Table). The file system manages the organization, storage, and retrieval of files and provides features like file permissions, encryption, and compression.
Networking: Windows OS includes networking components that enable connectivity and communication over networks. This includes protocols, network drivers, and services for tasks like TCP/IP networking, wireless networking, and domain authentication.
