The NAVIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) system is an autonomous regional satellite navigation system developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to provide accurate position information to users in India and the surrounding region, However it will be expanding further to reach every part of world. The system uses a constellation of seven satellites, including three in geostationary orbit and four in inclined geosynchronous orbit, to provide coverage over an area of about 1500 km around the Indian subcontinent.

In the context of a Geographic Information System (GIS), NAVIC can be used to provide precise location data for a variety of applications. For example, it can be used in mapping and surveying to create accurate maps and to update existing maps with new data. In disaster management, NAVIC can be used to quickly and accurately locate and track the movement of people and resources. It will be highly helpful for government agencies working for disaster management. In transportation, NAVIC can be used to provide navigation information for vehicles and boats, helping to improve safety and efficiency.

NAVIC can also be integrated into other GIS tools and data to support decision-making and planning in areas such as urban development, agriculture and transportation. For example, the precise location data provided by NAVIC can be used to help plan new roads, buildings, and other infrastructure, as well as to track the growth and development of existing settlements. In agriculture, NAVIC can be used to help farmers improve crop yields by providing precise information about soil conditions and weather patterns. In transportation, NAVIC can be used to help plan new routes, track the movement of vehicles and cargo, and improve the safety and efficiency of transportation systems.

Overall, the NAVIC system is an important tool for improving the accuracy and efficiency of a wide range of applications in the field of geographic information systems. It allows for more precise and accurate data collection, analysis, and decision-making, ultimately leading to better outcomes in various fields.
