Modern operating systems are like bridges between the hardware and software applications you use. Its functionalities include process management, user interface, device management, and security.
An Operating System is like a manager of your computer whose job is to make sure everything runs smoothly and all the components are working efficiently.

An OS also ensures that no program or instruction executed by the user interferes with memory space belonging to another instruction that can harm the efficiency of the computer.

Some of the modern and popular operating systems include:
Windows is an operating system designed and developed by Microsoft.
It is found massively in private and business realms. The majority of people have Windows operating systems installed on their computers. Windows is celebrated for its user-friendly interface. The latest version is Windows 11.
MacOS is an operating system developed by Apple.
It is known for its sleek design, powerful integration with other Apple devices, and world-class security features. Unlike Windows, macOS is available only for Apple computers and cannot be installed on other computers. It is used in Mac computers.
Linux is an open source operating system.
It is quite famous for its robustness and flexibility. There are many distributions; for example, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Debian, to fulfill the needs and requirements of users. Linux was one of the first operating systems introduced in the market.
Android, Designed by Google, is a widely used operating system for mobile devices.
Most of the touch-sensitive mobile gadgets, including handhelds, smartphones, and tablets, use this software primarily.
iOS is another Apple invention. The software is designed to work on iPhones and iPads. It is best known for creating a good user experience, better security features, and integrating properly with the added services of Apple.


The modern operating systems are designed to promote easy and efficient computing. They play a significant role in contemporary computing as they provide a secure platform for users to handle their data. Users become more productive, creative and reduces effort through modern operating systems because it provides a stable information environment and protects files.
