Web site

Web site. A website is a collection of linked web pages (plus their associated resources) that share a unique domain name. Each web page of a given website provides explicit links—most of the time in the form of clickable portions of text—that allow the user to move from one page of the website to another.

You can have multiple Web sites that cross-link to files on each others' sites or even share the same files.

Examples of notable websites are Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Wikipedia.

A web site is a specific location on the WWW where information and details pertaining to company/individual who has put up the site are available. Web site is a collection of web pages. The first page (Opening page) of the web site is known as home page.

Web pages are created by using hypertext mark-up language (HTML).

Web page is a document that contains links to other web pages, graphic, audio files etc.

These links are called as hypertext links or hyperlinks, Every web site is having unique address? You can go to a Web site of your choice by typing the address of the company/individual you want. Web site address should be in the form of host.subdomain.domain, for example mu.ac.in. Hyperlink can be in the form of Text.

A website’s usual starting point or opening page, called a home page, usually functions as a table of contents or index, with links to other sections of the site.

Websites are hosted on one or more Web servers, which transfer files to client computers or other servers that request them using the HTTP protocol. Although the term site implies a single physical location, the files and resources of a website may actually be spread among several servers in different geographic locations.

The particular file desired by a client is specified by a URL that is either typed into a browser or accessed by selecting a hyperlink.
