Company History

Peter Coppinger and Dan Mackey founded a company, Digital Crew, in 2007. This company built websites, intranets and custom web-based solutions for clients in Cork, Ireland. Frustrated by whiteboards and software management tools, Coppinger wanted a software system that would help manage client projects and which would be easy-to-use and generic enough to be used by different types of companies. Originally 37signals Basecamp users themselves, Coppinger and Mackey were frustrated by the limited feature set and by Basecamp's apparent inaction on their feedback.[12][13] In October 2007, Coppinger and Mackey launched Teamwork Project Manager, nicknamed TeamworkPM. In March 2015, this was renamed as Teamwork Projects.

In 2014, after two years of negotiations, TeamworkPM bought the domain name 'Teamwork.com' for US$675,000 (€500,000).[15] At the time this was one of the most expensive domain name purchases by an Irish company, and involved the transfer of a domain name which had been dormant since it was first acquired by the original owner in 1999.

In 2015, Teamwork was named by Gartner to be one of their "Cool Vendors" in the Program and Portfolio Management Category. This was followed by the launch of a new real-time messaging product, Teamwork Chat, in January 2015. In June 2015, the company announced a drive to recruit for 40 positions by the end of the year. This was followed by the announcement that the company was investing more than €1 million in a new office, and had leased office space in Park House, Blackpool.

In June 2016, Teamwork undertook a further recruitment drive to entice developers to Cork.

In July 2021, the company announced has raised an investment of $70 million (€59.1 million) from venture capital firm Bregal Milestone to fund further growth.

Teamwork markets a number of cloud-based applications, including Teamwork, Teamwork Desk, Teamwork Spaces, Teamwork CRM and Teamwork Chat. Teamwork was launched on 4 October 2007, at which time it had time management, milestone management, file sharing, time tracking, and messaging features.

Teamwork's platform reportedly integrates with martech software like HubSpot, as well as other productivity tools like Slack, G Suite, MS Teams, Zapier, Dropbox and QuickBooks.

Functions and features

See everything clearly

Get a bird’s-eye view of all of your projects and see where each one stands, when they’re due, and which clients they’re for, for a more holistic and strategic overview of what your team is working on at any given moment.

Improve your processes

Teamwork’s easy-to-use portfolio project management software allows you to set triggers to automate your admin, keeping work moving smoothly along as your projects progress towards completion.

Manage all projects from one central place

Get quick updates on each project’s activity without needing to navigate away. Portfolio in Teamwork gives you the insights you need to analyze your team’s performance with just one click.

Oversee your operations with clarity

Using a portfolio project management tool, it’s easier to spot trends across projects, so you can predict bottlenecks, proactively take action, and manage your resources more efficiently.

The problem

Keeping all of the moving parts of a project in motion is no mean feat — and that’s just for one project. As you scale, it can become almost impossible to keep an eye on everything that needs your attention across multiple projects.

The solution

Portfolio project management software gives you the perfect vantage point to see all your projects once at once, and quickly get the insights you need, from top-level updates to nitty-gritty details.

Conclusion

  • No matter what size our business grows to, these are the values that guide our decision making everyday

  • We’re open, trustworthy and down to earth

  • We’re passionate about what we do

  • We put our customers first

  • We strive for excellence

  • We’re results driven

  • We value teamwork

    Get organized

Group relevant people into department teams, sub-teams, and even cross-functional project teams. As you scale, you can save time by quickly adding new joiners to those teams, and they’ll inherit all of the right projects (and privacy levels).

    Simplify planning and setup

Assign individual tasks to Teams to save time on project planning and setup. Don’t mind who on the team completes the task? Give team members the autonomy to decide who works on what by letting them pick up tasks between themselves based on their workloads and priorities.

    Improve communication

Quickly notify, tag, or mention an entire Team in a comment or message using their team @handle, so you can get (or give) updates and input when needed — and ensure no one misses an important notification.

    Get greater visibility

Use Teams in combination with Teamwork’s other powerful features, such as filters and Workload, to get a deeper understanding of the work assigned to particular groups, and see the remaining capacity of only the people on that team.
